Question:

I'm trying to identify a painting somewhat similar to Winslow Homer's Fog Warning. Can you help?

I don't know the artist. It may be (or have been) owned by Bill Gates. It depicts 2 or 3 sailors in an open whaler going up against a HUGE dark wave into a dreary sea. The image has haunted me since I first saw it some years ago. It looks like it could be a Rembrandt, though I don't think it is. The style is similar. Very powerful image.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Bill Gates owns Winslow Homer's ~ Lost On The Grand Banks. He paid $36m for it in 1998.
