Why aren't black and white colors?

what i mean is artists say that black and white aren't colors they are some other thing but why aren't they colors?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Black is often not seen as a colour because black absorbs all colours in the colour spectrum and therefore none of them are reflected back to your eyes. So when you see black your actually seeing no colours.

White however, should be a colour. This is because white doesn't absorb any of the colours it just reflects them back. Therefore when you see white your actually seeing every colour on the colour spectrum.
