I have a class and my project is to write out a creative writing piece and then send it somewhere so that it gets published. Magazine, book, article, etc.

Duotrope will also provide you with a link to the publisher's web site. From there, look for a link that says "Submissions" or "Submit" or "Information for Writers." That will take you to a page with the publication's guidelines, and there you will get precise instructions about how to prepare and send in your manuscript for consideration.
