Question:

Will movie content affect the content of novels? A lot of movies are rated PG-13 instead of R.?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Movies and books can be two different animals. Very few movies follow the book faithfully and some are totally unrecognizable.

Faithful:

Harry Potter movies
Lord of the Rings

Unfaithful:

Total Recall (loosely based on "We'll remember it for you wholesale" by Phillip K. Dick)

TOTALLY Unfaithful:

The Beastmaster (idea based on the science fiction novel THE BEASTMASTER by Andre Norton)

The only thing recognizable about The Beastmaster was the animal/human team. The original book was science fiction, not fantasy, and had no magic in it.

As for books getting watered down for a lower rating, forget it. The rating system is determined by the publisher's guidelines. If you pick up a Harlequin main line, for instance, there is NO SEX. If you pick up a Silhouette Desire, there will be and it'll be explicit.
