Question:

Are there any good slow musical theatre audition songs that don't have to be sung semi-operatically?

I need one for an upcoming audition for a theatre school and I don't have a semi-operatic style voice.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If by Semi-operatic you mean that you don't have a vibrato then you'll just have to do the best you can. While no song necessarily 'requires' a vibrato, it's generally accepted that that's part of the deal particularly in a 'slow' song.

You can try:
Home - Beauty and the Beast
Somewhere That's Green - Little Shop of Horrors (Might be 'character' enough to get away with no vibrato)
Let Me Entertain You - Gypsy
Matchmaker - Fiddler on the Roof (moderate, not slow)
How Lovely To Be A Woman - Bye Bye Birdie
I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair - South Pacific
I Can Hear The Bells - Hairspray
Astonishing - Little Women
In My Own Little Corner - Cinderella
God Help The Outcasts - Hunchback of Notre Dame
Ribbons Down My Back - Hello Dolly

I'l be honest, these are not my favorite audition songs for the most part but many are easier to pull off (except a few) if that's what you're looking for. I guess I'm not exactly sure of what you're looking for so I hope that these help in some way.

Good luck
