Question:

How can you improve concentration in remembering a piece of music to play from memory (particularly on piano)?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I always tell my students when they are learning or memorizing to think of the music as a patchwork quilt. Learn it in small sections, usually four measures. Play that small section over and over again, until you see it as a separate entity. Once you learn all your "patches" it is easier to put them together into a "quilt". I hope this makes sense... good luck. Remember, our brain learns in small "chunks". commit those to long term memory and its easier to recall.
