I have wanted to get a nice digital SLR camera for quite some time. I have thought about the Canon Reble XT and the nikon D40. I want to try to stay under $1000. It will take me a long time to save that kind of money. Any web sites or camera suggetions would be helpfull. I have a lumix FX-07 Wich is a very nice 7.1 pix compact.

Check out the Olympus E-510, or to save money the E-500 which was it's predecessor and is or will be discontinued very soon so they are selling for less now. They are going for nice prices right now (under your budget) on eBay.

I have been using an E-500 for about 18 months and it was less than $1000 with two lenses back then. And works great!

I chose the Olympus because I knew they were experienced in electronics, compact cameras and make excellent optics. They are big sellers of medical devices and microscopes.
