Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well, Larry McMurtry wrote some pretty popular westerns. *The Lonesome Dove series, Buffalo Girls...* Try those first, then move on to Louis Lamour and Zane Grey. I don't know if they're popular anymore, but they're very good nonetheless.
