Question:

For those that have read "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand...?

If more people were like Howard Roark would the world be a better place?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Yes and no.
No, if it were only a few more. There are too many people willing to follow the Ellsworth Tooheys in this world for a few people like Howard Roark to make a difference. I think EVERYONE would have to be like Howard Roark (or John Galt) before anyone could benefit. Until each and every individual is prepared to make rational self-interest his or her primary motivator, there will be too many people who depend on others and still look to others for validation.
And we??d have to completely alter our cultural mindset. Christianity is not compatible with a world full of Howard Roarks, is not compatible with the very idea of individualism. Egoism cannot coexist with Christianity, which would have us put God first, others second, and ourselves third on our priority lists.
But, yes, if suddenly everyone in the world was like Howard Roark, then the world would be a better place. It??s just not going to happen, not any time soon.
??My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute??—Ayn Rand
