Question:

If you are thinking of setting up your own theatre company, what are the factors to consider? Thanks.?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If I were setting up a theater company, I'd tie it in with the local community. If I lived in Smalltown, I'd call it the Smalltown Theater Company and try to get the locals invested in me: maybe even do some regional plays to get an audience.

Now, you asked for factors - not strategy.

You have to:
Secure a rehearsal space
Secure a performance space
Build a season (five shows a year, maybe)
Get directors, SM's and designers for the shows
Build an audience
Consider non-profit status
Advertising for the company, season and shows
Create a mission statement and artists statement
Raise enough money (which leads to....)
Get a board of directors

I'd probably also want support from the local government - perhaps ties into Arts in the Parks or the Schools, community workshops and that sort of stuff.

The main thing is to have a goal (five show season, financially stable, short tours) and then the pieces will fall into place as you strive for that final goal.
