A Mother??s Priority

The local news came on at five--
Ten residents are no longer alive,
Some shot with guns, some stabbed with knives,
But the baby smiled today.

And then the news told of a wreck,
Seat belts and air bags could not protect
A family on their summer trek,
But the baby smiled today.

Another station tells of war,
Reporters ask, "What is this for?
Our soldiers die on foreign shores!"
But the baby smiled today.

The cost of gas has gone so high,
Might hit $4 a gallon, oh my!
We can't afford to drive or fly,
But the baby smiled today.

And jobs are going overseas
While America closes factories--
Our economy's brought down to its knees,
But the baby smiled today.

With so much wrong in the world today
I should have so much more to say;
I should be more concerned, but hey,
My baby smiled today.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: the first 3 stanzas were perfect. they made me sad. but then you talked about the cost of gas and that seemed so silly in comparison.

the last stanza is absolultely perfect. i loved it :) it made me smile
