Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Pick up a basic guitar chord book and learn a few chords. A half dozen or so will do. Then find someone with a similar interest in music and start playing together.

You will both pick up new things from each other and improve with practice.

Invite other musicians and start having some casual jam sessions. Every once in a while you will meet one who is a bit more advanced than you. From this musician, you will learn even more, and at a faster rate.

Soon you'll have a pretty good sized repretoire and be playing music others can enjoy.
