Luxury and fashion companies are opening more stores than ever in developing countries like China and India, and the emerging upper class in those countries are ever more conscious about being fancy. However, this is not always a good thing. I recently read in "The Economist" that some Chinese are resenting the marketing used by these companies to promote their products, because most advertising for "fancy" brands sends a message that if you buy this or that, you are better than the rest.... of course the problem is, most people cannot afford being "fancy".
