Question:

How would the story have changed if the one surviving animal had been the hyena?

question about "the life of Pi" by Yann Martel

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I don't think the boy would of lived. The hyena was ruthless and hungry. While the tiger is stronger and you would think more blood-hungry, the tiger has a majestic restraint than the hyena. The tiger almost seems to be above ruthless killing of a human, just for food, and knows in the long run the boy could provide more food for him if he lives and catches food for the tiger than if the tiger just eats him on the spot. The hyena is too primitive to think ahead and would of eventually died off himself once he finished with the boy.
