Question:

How do you learn to stand on your toes??? PLEASE HELP!?

About 6 months ago i took up point class, since i have always wanted to learn to stand on my tip toes sooo much! But unfortunatrely we do not have enough money for my mum to buy me proffesional point shoes at the minute. So is there any possible way to stand on my toes without the point shoes???
Does it hurt??
How much practice do you need a day??
Is it even possible???
thank u

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Pointe shoes are necessary to stand...well, on point! And to answer the rest of your questions, no, you really cant stand on your toes without point shoes SAFELY!!! You can stand on your toes in other shoes (really strong jazz shoes or jazz sneakers) but it really isn't recommended. Does it hurt? Yes. That's why there is a market for lambs wool, gellies, padding and support for your toes in the shoes.
You should only do pointe classes after having a lot of ballet training (at least 5 years) with an experienced teacher / ballet master or ballet mistress (not a student teacher). You start with 15 minutes after each class with a lot of ankle exercises to work from demi-point to pointe, releve, plie/preparation to pointe, and on and on. You need at least 30 minutes of practice every day on pointe to become comfortable.

Is it even possible? Yes as I said above. You can stand on your toes in other shoes (look at all of the Crunk/Crump Breakdancers) but not SAFELY! If you don't want to ruin your ankles and toes, wait on the toe shoes.

You also might want to look up all of the pointe shoe manufacturers (Leo, Capezio, etc) and just start writing them letters explaining your situation and how much you want to dance. One of them might donate a new pair of shoes to you.

Good luck!
