Question:

Do you think that a pathological liar ?

GETS SO CAUGHT UP IN THEIR TALES OF 'WOE" THAT THEY THEMSELVES CAN NOT DIFFERENCIATE WHAT IS THE "TRUTH" AND WHAT IS A "LIE"??(sorry for all caps I wasnt shouting)....

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: In some cases perhaps people are even lying to themselves. In most cases however, I don't think pathological liars believe their own lies. You have to be rather cunning & have an exceptional memory to be a good liar. Personally I'd make a terrible liar not only because my conscience wouldn't let me but I have an awful short term memory & I'd forget the story I made up.

I once knew a guy who would make up the most elaborate stories of adventures he'd had. Complete with realistic details if you questioned him on it. He should have just been a fiction writer. I can't understand the point of this. Why impress people with things that aren't true? How can there be any satisfaction in living a lie. I go the other way & am too brutally honest at times & wear my heart on my sleeve & that gets me into trouble.

You mention "tales of woe" I think perhaps you're referring to hypochondriacs or drama queens & in those cases those people are not lying, they do believe they are martyred creatures who are so hard done by. Exaggerating, overreacting perhaps, lying no. It would be the same as people who are delusional. They aren't lying when they say they are the Queen of Sheba, they actually believe it.
