What do you think motivates someone to stand in line for days to be among the first buy something?

Be it the iphone, Harry Potter, The latest Star Wars, or even Tickle Me Elmo....what is the motivating factor that drives someone to go to such extremes to be the "first" to own the "latest"

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: For some it's oneupmanship, not only for the pricy items, but I think of the parents who will get physical over who gets the last in-stock holiday toy. For others, it's being on the cutting edge of technology, culture, you name it. For me, I kind of like seeing some of the people camping out in anticipation of being among the first to buy/see something. There's a sort of bonding experience going on among those of similar interest. I've never camped out overnight, but have enjoyed standing in several hours-long movie or concert lines and striking up conversations.
