Question:

History of macbeth?

where was the exact place where Macbeth died Some say it was in the grounds of a church in elgin ?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: This is what my source says of Macbeth's final moments; After an initial battle at Dunsinnan there followed three years of civil war, where many small battles were fought. "However, during one such retreat Macbeth found himself cut off from his main army, and he was ambushed by Malcolm's forces at Lumphanan, west of Aberdeen. Tradition states that he made his last stand in the stone circle known as the Peel Ring where he and his bodyguard were butchered." You will have to do an Internet search on the Peel Ring to find out where exactly that is. "The real Macbeth was revered and given a royal burial on Iona." I don't know exactly where Iona is either, you can search that one too, should be easy to find data on it.

I don't know if this is any more accurate than any other wild guess. But it sure has a dashing, bloody good romantic/tragic feel to it. It certainly sounds much better than what Shakespeare wrote, but then again, Shakespeare was trying to impress the new king whose ancestors opposed Macbeth. The historical Macbeth doesn't seem to have been nearly as bad.

curious note 1- The Scottish people, after the death of Macbeth, chose his stepson, Lulach [known as "Lulach Fatuus" (the fool)] as their new leader. Yet Malcolm, with lots of help from England's king Edward the Confessor [?] managed to make quick work of this apparent leader who couldn't lead (hence the ignoble 'fool' title).

thanks for the heads up. I didn't have my maps handy. it must be nice to live in a place so rich in history. im sure you know well the things i have only heard about.
