Question:

I've lost the inspiration/motivation to draw?

I love to write whenever I have the time, and I draw a lot as well. I have been considering art school for awhile for illustration. However, as I think about it, it always seems that when I write, although it may take time, it flows a lot more naturally than drawing. While I love to draw, it takes a lot more practice, work and studying for me to improve. I've been told I am talented in art, as well as writing, so that's not the question. It's just that lately (and all through my Junior year of high school), I've gotten so tired of drawing and the competition around me from other art students that I find myself lacking the desire to draw that I once had. My Junior year I had art class both semesters, and through all of the projects and etc, I have really grown to be sick of it. I need to have my art portfolio ready for the fall.

How can I motivate myself to draw? Is this a sign that I'm not as crazy about drawing as I thought I was?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: As a professional artist, "art" is always with me. I have never been bored by it, but there have been times that I am more motivated than others. It is natural at times to feel this way. I am a self-employed fine artist/muralist and scrapbooking consultant.

Remember that not everything comes easily - the challenges we face, are what help us learn, develop, mature and grow. And at this stage of your life, you still have a lot of learning to do - whether it is English, Math or Art. The art Masters may have had talent, but they too had to work hard to improve their skills and trade.

While drawing is the fundamental to all art, perhaps there are other classes that you can take to motivate and inspire you. Try a watercolor/painting class, a 3-D/pottery class or even photography.

Take a trip to you local library and research some different artists and styles. It might be just the thing to get the creative juices flowing.

It sounds like you are creative person, so find a niche that works for you. Good Luck!
