Question:

So has Japan ever apologized for Pearl Harbor? Need to know for a history essay?

Writing an Essay about Peal Harbor and WW2. Would like to know any and all TRUTH about Japans Apology and if it was every done. I know Germany did, I know the US did (for the internment of Japanese American Citizens. But has Japan ever apologized "Officially"

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: No, they have never issued an apology for Pearl Harbor. But they also have never apologized for the Rape of Nanking or the Bataan Death March or their conscription of Korean women to serve as unpaid prostitutes.
On the other hand, let's ignore that the United States incinerated two of their cities, brought Japan to its knees and crushed its military power. Also ignore that the U.S. murdered hundreds of thousands of Filipinos during the Filipino-American war, overthrew the Hawaiian monarchy, placed Japanese Americans in internment camps during World War II [for which we did apologize], and other gross events through history and still to this day.
The closest Japan has come to a formal apology is outlined in a 2005 article on Japan News: http://www.ikjeld.com/japannews/00000130...
Below is part of a statement by Yohei Kono, then chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party and a member of the Diet, on the 50th anniversary of Hiroshima.
"Japan's past failure to vow never to repeat such deeds as the colonization of Korea, invasion of China and seizure of other parts of Asia during World War II has made people in the region distrustful of Tokyo and impeded our efforts to play a constructive international role.
"During a visit to Singapore in May, Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu became the first Japanese premier to express publicly heartfelt regret for the `unbearable suffering and sorrow' Japan inflicted during the war. This important action should be constantly reinforced by appropriate expressions of remorse and sincere repentance. We have to be very careful not to offend our neighbors by distorting the history of Japan's aggression."
This statement was, during a US Senate hearing on September 10, 1991, inserted into the record with the note:
"In his remarks, he apologizes in behalf of Japan for the Pacific War and takes a conciliatory stand that is a credit to him and the people of Japan.
"Leaders of every country, including the United States, would be wise to recognize the wisdom and generosity of this example."

If anyone is interested, "Can nations apologize?" is a very interesting article that was originally published in Christian Century, August 2, 1995 by Donald W. Shriver, Jr. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1...

Good luck on your essay!
