It's considered better to start young, but there are plenty of people who started a bit older who get along just fine. There are also people who have been dancing since they were 3 years old, and just don't have what it takes. As long as you love what you are doing, and have dedication, the only thing that can hold you back is yourself. Just have fun no matter how serious you plan to get about it. It's important for professionals to have fun. Just remember to always do what makes you happy:)
