Question:

How to make an architectural portfolio?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Choose a graphic element (a neat header or graphic image) to use on all of your sheets in the portfolio.

First page: Introduce yourself by explaining:
1] Your education
2] Your work history
3] Your skills
4] Your goals

Second page: A complete breakdown of your skills and abilities.

Third page through however many pages you intend to use:
1] The title of the project, followed by a short paragraph explaining what you'd like the viewer to see, or get out of, what draft(s) you're going to show them
2] The drafts you're going to show them
3] A short paragraph explaining what skills and abilities you used or built upon by doing that particular draft or set

You would follow this structure for all of your works you intend to set up for them to see. You would also do this using anything non-related to your field that you can use to explain your soft (transferrable) skills.

You would want to include a written document, showing that you can answer a question concisely and accurately, in case they have you go to presentations and want you to bring back information. It's even good for responding to memos and in-house inquiries or other forms of communication. Find a topic that is being debated in your field, and respond to it with a 1 to 2 page summary and response. Include a printout of the original topic before your response.

Fourth to last page: A quick paragraph thanking them for looking at your portfolio, and something to lead them to your resume and targeted cover letter on the next pages

Third to last page: A targeted cover letter

Second to last page: Your resume

Last pages: Copies of your introduction, cover letter, resume, and your skills and abilities sheet, in that order

Keep in mind that they will spend only a few short moments looking at your resume, so don't put in all 30 pages of a sheet set.

Use sheet protectors, with tabbed sheet protectors to separate each section. Your sections should be:
1] The part where you put your introduction and skills and abilities list
2] Your architectural part of the portfolio, broken into sections for each job you're pulling things from
3] Your soft skills part of your portfolio, broken into sections for each job you're pulling things from
4] Your "outro" and copies of your information.
