Question:

Should I go to this audition???! Please help!?

How do I know if I'm good enough to dance professionally? All I've ever wanted to do is dance. It is my one and only passion. It makes me happy in a world where so little does. There is this audition in NY in July for this big dance talent agency. I really want to go but then there is that awful voice in my head telling me, there's no way you're good enough, they'll never take you. But the voice in my heart tells me I can't live without dancing. I just can't decide whether or not to audition. I mean I think i'm a good dancer (15 years of training) but I danced at an incredible studio with so much talent and i was never the best in my class. I guess because there was so much pure talent there I never got too much recognition. I don't want to embarrass myself. Should I go?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Go! So what if you show up and are the worst person there (which you probably won't be). The worst that's likely to happen is that they won't like you. So what? They won't like the majority of people there. That's the dance world. You've been dancing for 15 years at a great studio, and if they don't like you, someone else might.

If you're really worried about embarrassing yourself, don't look it as an opportunity to show off, but as a chance to do your best and then look at how you need to improve. It sounds kinda stupid, but that's how I got through auditions: just telling myself that even if I wasn't the best this time around, now I'd learned what I had to do to be better.

Besides, ten years from now, do you really want to be sitting around wondering if you might have been good enough? If you like dancing enough to train for 15 years, I'm pretty sure you won't be happy if you listen to that little voice telling you not to try.
