Why do some people believe in a lie before a truth?

once some one has heard a rumor, it seems as though the truth becomes the lie to these people. Why is this?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Lies are usually more practised and polished than the truth which can sometimes be pretty ragged and raw. Rumour and gossip are shared between friends, and truth often suffers in the balance, it is not as easily expanded upon to make an interesting story and when it is doesn't remain truthful.
