Question:

Looking for the parents of Mary Wells who was married to Martin Fugate of the Blue Fugates. I need her parents

I didn't give a date because all you have to do is type in Martin Fugate and Mary Wells and up they come. It gives Martins parents, but not hers. hoping you can help.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: the answer is that one of her parents was most likely a Fugate also. If you read the article of the Blue Fugates, you see where their son married his mother's sister (his aunt). so the family is probably so inbred, it will be hard to figure out who was who. To know Kentucky history, they lived in an isolated area and were in essence shunned by neighbors, so intermarrying happened quite frequently. take for instance my Kentucky ancestors...my great-grandfather married his first cousin of which her parents were also first cousins. you have to realize that people in the "hollers" lived so close to each other and as a matter of safety from feuders, it was sometimes accepted freely and helped preserve family lines against death from outside hands. of course we know now about the dangers of that practice and I thank God it did not affect me and my siblings because my dad's family was not like that. there is a great deal of mental illness stemming from those people that are closer to that generation. i don't know her parents names, but i am assuming her mother or grandmothers to be Fugates also. BTW i do have a great-uncle married to a Fugate, but she is not blue.
