Question:

I'm learning photography and would like to know what camera I should buy. I would like to have a show someday

Also, when you exhibit, do you have to develop your own film and print them yourself, or can you just send to a lab? And where can I take workshops or find a teacher for beginners? I'm in New York City. Thanks.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Since your a beginner, and in a big town, try your local parks and rec, community colleges, etc... Use this time to meet and greet expereinced photogs, gallery owners/employees, processors, etc...

Once you meet a couple of photogs, hit them up for info on being an assistant, and learn what you can.

As for camera's you will hear a lot of opinions about "the best". However, if your getting into this for the art, lenses, filters, lighting, etc.. will be as important, if not more than, the camera. When you look for a camera, keep in mind the ability to accesorize.

When it comes time ot print pieces for exhibit, you will know who to go to.

Dont forget the business side of things. Take some courses in business management, marketing, graphic arts, etc...

Make the aquaintance of a lawyer that is knowledgeable with contract/copyright law. It will make life easier in the long run when dealing with releases, models, location permits, selling your art, and dealing with gallery owners.
