Question:

Bible question w/the law?

When you are sworn in court, you swear in with your right hand on the Bible. Basically you are swearing to tell your word on God's promise. (My view.) What if you are agnostic? Do you swear-then lie because you don't believe in God? Or do you inform the Judge your preferance, and refuse to swear on the Bible? (But will tell the truth?)

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You inform the judge, and you use what is known as the "Honor Oath"-- :"I swear, on my honor, to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth", or, if you don't like swearing oaths (for religious reasons, usually), an "Affirmation": "I affirm....". Some judges like to include "...under the pains and penalties of perjury..."-- it varies from court to court.
