Question:

"If we treat a person as he is we make him worse; if we treat him as he might be we help him."?

This is a quote of the German poet Goethe who said: "If we treat a person as he is we make him worse; if we treat him as he might be we help him come closer to his potentials. "
What do you think about that?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The quote is quite true.
Only that, when we treat him 'as he is' we are ourselves quite comfortable, safe, & it suits our conveneience.....
Tapping the potentials of other person is quite a job ! Ask any Zen Master ! They take the trouble to go to any extent... what ever it takes... to help a disciple to come closer to his potentials.
Very few (amongst those already few of the capable ones) venture to 'treat him as he might be' !!
In material , commercial world, we find lots of circus about HRD (Human Resources Development) to tap the potential in a person, employee, etc.... Endless innovations, trials etc... So, what to speak of spiritual path !!!!!
