Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Oh, we have a great time over here, finding relatives and/ or ancestors!!
Couple of tricks for you- one is to know that children of your parents are relatives. (yeah, that's a *duh*). Ok, next, identify grandpa's children and grandchildren, all are verifiable relatives. Sooner or later, we get you back to gr gr grandparents and their descendents... all are related.
Let's imagine that we manage to work back to gr gr gr grandpa.. he had 3 boys and 3 girls. None of the sons got to go to school, and when the clerk mispelled the name to <fill in the blank> the sons accepted the alternate spelling. After all, that clerk went to school, and *must* know better than them. All of the girls married, now they have different names, but they didn't stop being relatives. And since it is often true that the girls were more sentimental, one of them grabbed the family Bible with all those records.
So.. in family history, it is completely normal to have alternate spellings. Then some nut invented the computer, and the computer only finds "hits" using what you tell it. Google is nice, sometimes it says "hey, didn't you mean to spell it this way??"
Finally.. let me send you over to www.rootsweb.com, which has family files, and a bunch of entries with your spelling. Just a heads up... most of these persons are dead (since we are careful about invading privacy). If you have done some tracing (after we tempted you into research), you might find that gr gr grandpa IS in one of those files, and it was submitted by a cousin. Maybe the one with the Bible. Unless you have already found what his name and wife's name are, they could be right there and you won't see them.
PS.. most of the files mention the Netherlands. So your family might be from there, or you might find the spelling was something else, and your ancestors were born in Sweden.
