This poem started as a personal poem for someone special. I think it developed into something beyond that. I would like to thank Cinnamon for all the inspiration.

The Distance Between Us

What I love about you
is that there are so many things
to love
about you.
That??s what I love about you.
Does that seem too pat? Too vague?
Too quick an answer? Something you??ve
heard before? Listen,
this is nothing you??ve
ever
heard
before.
Don??t hide,
Don??t you dare hide from this.
No, it isn??t your skirt-hiked,
the back of your neck, the disturbing
way I tremble when you??re near--even now.

Nothing that obvious.

Look at me. At me.
It isn??t your troubling lips.
It isn??t the playful smirk you wear
knowing that you can
make me, make me, forget this space,
this distance,
that you can pull me down.
into you. We??re coming to the truth now.
Can you feel it?
Don??t turn away.
What I love about you
can??t be seen
can??t be touched
but rolls through me like a train:
noise, rhythm, fury,
crossing every mile
smashing every illusion
Making me fully into the man I
can become. With you.
Only with you.

The irony is there is no distance,
and that??s what I love about you.
