Question:

Acting and dancing?

I was wondering, what kind of dance class is the best to take for acting? I am really into drama so I am going to start taking dance lessons, so I can be better at dancing. I am currently taking singing and acting, so don't say anything bout like starting with that or focusing on that! So ya, what type of dance class is best to take for acting in musicals?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Tap and Jazz are the most common dance forms in musicals (ie: Chicago, Fosse, Thoroughly Modern Millie, 42nd Street...). They are also fairly easy to pick up in a short amount of time.

Then comes ballet, which is equally important in music theatre (ie: Oklahoma!, CATS...). And it does happen to be the center of all dance we know today. However, it is not the quickest thing to pick up and requires a lot of time. That being said, it would still be a good skill to learn and class to take.

I have taken all three classes, ballet for the longest, and do music theatre, and I believe you would benefit most from jazz. Once you start learning that, you can add on a tap class and you would be set!

Good luck!
