Question:

If one has Italian ancestry, but is not eligible for immediate dual citizenship, can he reside in Italy for it

For example, if my great-grandfather naturalized before my grandfather was born, can I reside in Italy for 3 years and then receive Italian citizenship?

If I am under the age of majority is there any special provision?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I inquired a bit and found out that, since you are 3 generations away from your Italian relative, it is no valid criteria to allow you to get the italian citizenship after only 3 years of residence in Italy. If you are American, it'll take 10 years. If you are a citizen of the European Communinty, only 4. It won't happen authomatically, you'll have to provide many documents and the Italian government will decide whether to grant you citizenship or not.
