Question:

What is a good website for free, BUT excellent monologues?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You know what you do well and what you don't. You should read some plays and craft the monologue from good active dialogue. Don't find a chunk of words and memorize them. Also, steer clear from Neil Simon, Christopher Durang and "I Hate Hamlet." While these are all fine and dandy, they are unbelievably overdone.

Sorry, but if you're looking for excellent monologues, that is really the only way to go about it. Don't buy some mass-produced monologue book, even if they are pulled from plays. If the auditor is familiar with the piece, they might ask you a question about it. If you haven't read the play, you will inevitably appear foolish when they ask. They aren't trying to trap you with that question so much as they want to learn more about you. What they will learn is that you aren't willing to do the work on the most basic level, and no matter how well you do, it'll reflect poorly.

What I mean is, while Hamlet has some great monolgues, I, as an actor, don't fit the part of Hamlet and it would be ridiculous to present an audition piece of Hamlet. Also, don't be afraid to look at a playwright you're unfamiliar with. At the very least, the auditor might see something original and pay closer attention to your acting.

Sorry for the answer not having a website, but artists are drawn to quality. That's the only way to go about it. Break a leg.
