If you format a digital cameras memory card can you get your pictures back?

i have a canon powershot a530 and a kodak 256mb memory card. i did a low format on the card and all the images are gone is there anyway i can get my pictures back?

These software are FREE !!!! I've used one of them successfully before. The trick is to make sure you stop using the memory cards as soon as you realize you made a mistake.
