Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Stranvisky's Chant du Rossignol is based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen called The Nightingale.

The story about a Chinese Emperor who loved his nightingale??s magnificent songs. One day, the Emperor received a mechanical nightingale of gold and precious jewels which sang one beautiful song. Drawn by the riches and beauty, the Emperor favored the new toy. The real nightingale felt unappreciated and escaped. Years later, the Emperor was mortally ill and the mechanical bird is broken, the real nightingale returns voluntarily, refreshed the Emperor with its song and drove away Death.

In Stravinsky's music, the flute represents the real nightingale. The oboe represent the mechanical nightingale.
