Poetry on Priests Income
When a church seeks a pastor,
they often want,
The strength of an Angel,
The grace of a Swan,
The gentleness of a Dove,
The friendliness of a sparrow,
And the night hours of an Owl,
They expect him to live,
On the food of a Canary!
I think they take a vow of poverty, not real smart
you dont have to be rich, just smart
LOL! What a hoot of a question. Yeah. One might like to know. NO, secular priests at least do not take a vow of poverty though I believe all sisters, nuns and brothers do.

I'd guess they aren't hurting. Maybe find the article from the Financial Post about 15 years ago, called 'The Catholic Church, a multimillion dollar franchise. And if you do find it, I'd surely like to know.

The Catholic Church, you could mean Greek Orthodox, I guess, is incredibly rich and is all about money. Can you imagine all those years and all those women, at least, and lay persons, working for NOTHING? Just amazing.
I think it's just a basic allowance, around $300 (US$200) here in Singapore, if I'm not wrong. Just a basic allowance, since most of their needs are taken care of - lodging, food etc.
well a minister of the word uniting / methodist get free accomadation in manse(usually 3 bedrooms, smallish, small yard, with study and sometimes 'meeting room', garage, washer or fridge included, with visitors all the time) and they get just below the minimum wage, and they have to drive around heaps heaps all the time especiallly with large parish/linked congragations
ministers pay for electricity, water, phone etc
Priests in the Roman Catholic Church recieve a set amount to provide for their needs. The parish Church provides the room and board, meals, a car, and whatever is necessary to do the work of the Church. Priests in orders may take a vow of poverty, but I do not believe it is part of the Diocesean Priest vows. However, they do not "live it up" by far. They live on what is given to them, and just like you and me, try to save some for a rainy day.

I work full time for the Catholic Church, and although I could not afford a BMW, I can pay my rent, live on my own and survive. People who work in full time ministry, however, do not have as their priority to have a finanically successful life! We are concentrating on the reward that will come later....in heaven.
