Actually it is Raveendran pronounced as Rabindra among Bengalis. It is a Sanskrit word Ravi+Indra+Nathan meaning the God of supreme Sun.

I don't know what his name means, but i do know that he was a poet, writer, and wrote songs....in fact i think the national athem of india is written by him...i might be wrong
