Question:

My 20 year old computer tech son has lived his whole life in this town - I want him to see - to live -?

college break will be coming up soon and I'll help him pay his way - but where to go for the most life for our budget? I've suggested alternate lifestyle retreats, monistraies, trips abroad, or just getting in his can and going. Any other ideas? I don't want his life to be wasted like mine was.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I feel more sad for you than your son. He has a whole life ahead of him to travel and experience life, but you sound like you have many regrets. My suggestion...The two of you do something together. It doesn't have to be expensive...since it is two people instead of one...maybe rent an RV and travel around the country, down into Mexico, over the Great Lakes, whatever. But years from now that memory of your father-son trip will mean more to him, as well as you, than any trip around the world. Sounds like you have some regrets about your life that you are projecting on your son. He might be perfectly fine with living in the same town all his life. Many people are. Sit down with him and have a serious discussion about your concerns. Talk to him as one adult to another. If he still doesn't want to leave town and is content where he is, then perhaps you should accept that and move on. Maybe you could take some time for yourself and travel a bit instead! Or maybe the two of you could travel a bit together if he doesn't want to go off by himself. Just tell him how you feel. this will kill 2 birds with one stone. It will be a therapy for you and get the message across. Introduce him to couchsurfing.com.
