Question:

St. James Art Show in Louisville, KY: what should we expect?

I have lived in Louisville for 3 years but this will be my first time to go to the St. James Art Show. My sister will be flying in for the weekend and we are really excited. Where is the best place to park? Anything we "have" to see?

Also, my sister has a one month old, is it to crowded for a small stroller?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Make sure you wear your most comfortable walking shoes and bring plenty of money in case you see something you can't live without. When thinking of buying something, make sure it's something that won't end up in a closet because you don't know where to put it. Expect very large crowds, and if you buy something don't flash your money and keep it in a secure place to avoid the possibility of pickpockets.

There will be very heavy traffic throughout the neighborhood, but from my experience the best way to get there is to come in on 4th St. from the U of L area, turn left onto Gaulbert St. which curves into 6th, then turn left onto Hill St. As soon as you pass the alley west of 6th St, Bethlehem Evangelical United Church of Christ on the right has parking for $5 or $10. I used to never pay for parking and would walk, but this is close and will help you since you will be bringing a stroller. There is also a shuttle service from the Brown Hotel's parking garage downtown for $6, and there is also Oktoberfest going on 4th St. by The Brown on Friday & Saturday.

I like seeing everything, but that takes hours to do. You can print out a map of the site on your computer from the show's website (under Visitor Info), and it is also usually printed in the newspaper. The website also lists a few of the participating artists (under Artist Preview).

The only areas that might be a bit tight for a stroller is Belgravia & Fountain Courts and 3rd Street because you will be restricted to sidewalks unless a booth is big enough for you to slip into. The grassy median on St. James Ct. might be a problem with a stroller due to uneven ground. St. James Court, Magnolia Ave, & 4th Street are all closed to traffic for the show and you can walk on the streets, so the stroller won't be a problem there.

I hope you enjoy the show. Source(s):
http://www.stjamescourtartshow.com/... It will be super crowded. It may be difficult to push around a stroller. A lot of the walking areas are narrow and you have a lot of idiots that just stop in the middle of the walkway. You may have to bypass a lot of people. Expect to see a lot of nice stuff, but also a lot of overpriced junk. If you are looking to buy anything, it will be expensive, so be prepared. Last year we parked in some church parking lot that was at about 7th and Burnett I believe. It was a good place to park. I can't remember how much it cost.

Have fun!

Addendum: Yeah, The guy below me is talking about the church that I parked at last year. Also I heard a good tip today, If you go later on Sunday afternoon you are more likely to get a better deal from people as they want to sell as much as they can because they don't want to lug everything back home with them. Of course, you take the chance that things might be sold out by then too. Boring stuff this!
