Question:

Why does Monteverdi use homophonic textures?

I've been listening to the fifth book of madrigals and notice
(for example in 'Cruda Amarilli') the marked changes between the homophonic and polyphonic writing, which coincide with a new line or meaning in the text. Does anyone know what the use of each texture signifies for the composer? For example, does he use one for a certain type of mood?

Easy to use links that will help with all your research needs, try typing a keyword or two into the search engine and see what happens.

Due to some weirdness with Answers, I have to write the links in a disjointed way. They do work, all you have to do is cut and psate and join up the gaps.
