What should I get my son for his 17th birthday?

He's very interested in Journalism, but already has a digital voice recorder. He also has every journalism book he could ever want...Are there any gifts that I'm missing?

He like music a lot...Is the iPod touch worth $400? He already has a 30G Video, so I'm not sure... Are Bose Headphones worth it? Are the in-ear ones good even though they're only $99 (cheap for bose)?
I don't want to buy him a car or a girlfriend. Still, he's a good kid and I want to get him something that he'll enjoy, but also use.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Bose are junk - yes they have a recognized brand name but they aren't all they are cracked up to be....they are ok for some things though - like small ipod speaker docs. But TRUST ME. I know a lot about audio. The best earphones for sound are Shure brand headphones. For about $100 you can get crystal clear sound and you won't hear anything around you. I like the E2C model. If he loves music, he'll enjoy this with his current ipod (do you really want to spend $400 on a new one when his old one works just fine) :)

I have these, and wouldn't use anything else.....everyone I play my ipod for w/ these earphones impresses every time. I really like the yellow foam ear coverings. They used to come with them

*you can also get him a journal or sketch type book just for free writing too. :) You can't go wrong with cold hard cash. I personally like the in-ear Bose headphones. They are a fantastic company with great quality. Have you considered a laptop computer? Very handy for Journalists.GL At 17, it would be nice to get him a little gift just from you that means something since he is turning into a man now, but for the main gift (and it does have to be big with it being the 17th birthday) take him out to pick out what he wants but let him know there is a limit.
