Question:

What is the "third harmonic"?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

Musically speaking, the third harmonic would be the 5th above the fundamental...so for example, if you're playing a bass on the open E string, you would be playing an E which also would be (at least as far as I'm concerned) the first harmonic. Cutting in the string in half would give you the 2nd harmonic, which would be an octave above the fundamental, thus also an E. Finally, cutting that amount in half, you would have get the 5th.

The harmonics in order are
1, 1, 5, 1, 3, 5, flat 7, 1 2 3 sharp 4, 5 6, flat 7, 7, 1

Hope that's what you meant.
