Question:

Which setting is best for my novel?

I'm starting to write a novel, which I've wanted to for a while. Anyway, it's set around a bushfire. Should I write about:

A - A real bushfire that happened a few years ago, do lots of reasearch and make it realistic, but risk getting facts wrong and upsetting people,

B - A real town, but a fake bushfire (so it's somwhat believeable), or

C - A fictional town (and bushfire), which I have more freedom with, but may not engage the audience as much.

I would love to hear your opinions!

I would research the situation, but change the names or situations as you see fit. That way you're creating realism without being tied down to a documentary style novel.
