Question:

Pantone Formula Guide?

Can I used a solid coated PANTONE formula guide to pick fabric colors. Or will the fabric look differant once it is dyed or printed. What Pantone guide should I use?

You might be better served to use a Formula Guide with coated and uncoated selections. It depends on the type of fabric you are using and it depends on the absorbancy of the fibers in that fabric.

I went to Pantone's site for the solid coated PANTONE formula guide and it appears to me that is is for painters and commercial printers inks - not fabric dyes: http://www.dickblick.com/zz569/03c/...

This site offers chips, coated and uncoated that can be torn out to more easily compare colors: http://www.dickblick.com/zz569/03/... It also contains a disk with more information on it and it highlights other Pantone products.

Again from what I can see from the site the colors are for computer screens, painting , art classes.

Here is a site for Pantone you may want to check out: http://www.dickblick.com/search/?sp_q=pa... With the Chips book and this web page you may be able to find what you need.
