Question:

How do I Identify a theme in a poem?

I need to find a theme in the poem "Clancy of The Overflow" by Andrew Barton Paterson (Banjo Paterson). Link for the poem : http://famouspoetsandpoems.com/poets/and... . Thank you.

Ah, one of my favourite poems!

To identify a theme you just need to ask yourself what the poem's about.

For me, the most prominent thing about this poem is the way it romanticizes the bush

If you want to explore this theme look at how Banjo talks about the bush, and then about how he talks about the city - what adjectives does he use in the paragraphs about the bush and what adjectives does he use when he's talking about the city.

I hope I've helped you to think about it... it's a fantastic poem.
