you have asked quite a question, and i must say that it would be difficult for me to imagine a world that has neither of the aspects you mentioned. after all, we seem to define the stages of progress of humanity with the various styles of of our time. it was the renaissance with its return to classical architecture, art and poetry that catapulted the nations of the western hemisphere into modernity. and throughout the centuries all peoples have sought shelter and safety in their traditions of music, poetry or art. these dimensions of the human identity have served to give us strenght, inspiration, and the determination to grow further.

it seems like since the beginings of humanity people have drawn on walls to record the events of their short lives, to cement their place in history. or they sang tunes to ground the present within the confines of the past.

in essence, art is our way of reinforcing our own identity, by placing ourselves smack in the middle of the human condition. we reveal our most voulnerable parts, and yet we feel safe in knowing that we have brought some normality into what otherwise feels like a very abnormal life.
