Question:

Who is more influential in art Leonardo Da Vinci or Leonardo Di Caprio? Why?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

While Leonardo da Vinci has been influential in art (among other things) the longest (the Mona Lisa - possibly the most unimpressive piece of art I've ever laid eyes on - is the most duplicated image ever), Leonardo DiCaprio can't be completely dismissed from the art world. Chicago based artist, Jason Salavon did a piece called The Top Grossing Film of All Time, 1 x 1, 2000. Salavon used the digitalized version of the film, Titanic, which DiCaprio starred in, and averaged each frame into a single color. DiCaprio now owns the C-print.

Salavon will probably be historically important in the art world based on his current success and attention he receives from art historians, so you can't dismiss pop culture so easily. And you also can't simply dismiss Salavon as irrelevant because you don't like his work or it doesn't fit your idea of what "real" art is. Da Vinci was highly criticized during his time for his depiction of the Mona Lisa.
