How can you be certain as possible that a piece is real and not just a forged piece of junk? That a seller is honest?

Ask the seller for a certificate of authenticity. Buy only from reputable dealers listed on Ebay. Check online for their BBB status. If you are buying direct from the artist ask for a statment from the certifying they are the artist with the name, title, and date of the artwork. I am an artist and buying through Ebay can make it difficult to verify but it can be done. I try to make unique notations on each piece of art and do not publicize what that may be. I will leave information on how to verify my work for when I am dead and gone. Provided there is that much interest in my work :)
