What makes a good opinion piece?

Is the sparking of debate and emotions a good sign of a well written opinion article? Or could the article be lacking proving its point?

I think the article needs to attempt to prove its point.
I was in forensics and once I heard two crazy speeches: One was on who were the three hottest guys and another was that we should feed roadkill to homeless people. So if these had points, yours should too.
I think a good opinion piece should make someone think. You have to present the other side of the argument as well but make sure you disprove it.
