There's not really anyway to help someone become a poet, they just kind of fin their own way. I guess though the best start is to read a lot of poetry so you can decide which styles of writing you like and why, then go from there.

Write about anything that comes to you, don't necessarily try to make it a rhyming poem, but focus on what you want to say and how -essentially it just comes with time and effort. There may also be courses that you could take if you want to go that route (try your local college for night courses perhaps or open university).
